About Us

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting people of all ages,  impacting their ability to concentrate, focus, and complete tasks effectively. Often, ADHD symptoms are mistaken for a lack of motivation or laziness, and in women, these symptoms are harder to recognise, leading to a late diagnosis. Living with the symptoms of ADHD can be a challenging, and overwhelming experience for a lot of people and we at ADHD Clinicians bring together a team of experienced doctors who work together to ensure you have a gold standard ADHD assessment. We bring expertise, compassion, and understanding to each assessment and ongoing treatment. We have extensive experience in ADHD and conduct all aspects of adult assessments, guaranteeing you receive an accurate diagnosis from a qualified specialist and any follow up treatment deemed appropriate. Should medication be necessary for optimal outcomes, our Consultant Psychiatrists can prescribe appropriate ADHD medications.

Our Service

If you complete our New Patient Enquiry, we will assess your suitability for our service. There is no charge for this initial enquiry. If we think we can help you, we will get back to you and ask you to book an appointment to come and see us. We’ll send initial questionnaires to be completed before the appointment and also ask that you provide contact details of someone who knew you as a child and as an adult (not necessarily the same person) to complete a questionnaire about you.

During your first appointment, which will last approximately an hour, the Doctor will take a full history from you and carry out a medical examination, including blood pressure and an ECG to ensure there are no contraindications if medication is prescribed. We will also screen for conditions that commonly co-exist with ADHD. This will be carried out at our health centre in Cork.

You will then be asked to make a further appointment with one of our specialists. There will be some more forms to complete before this second appointment  which will be carried out remotely via a Zoom video call. The clinician will facilitate a collaborative discussion and a semi-structured interview after looking through your pre-assessment paperwork. At the end of this assessment, the clinician will provide you with feedback about the diagnosis and will draw up a treatment plan. If ADHD is diagnosed and medication is deemed a suitable treatment you may be issued with a prescription at this appointment. If you are prescribed medication, then one or more follow up appointments will be required to ensure you are receiving the right dosage for you and that your symptoms are improving. Dosage or type of medication may be changed as appropriate during these follow up appointments. Once you are stabalized you only need to come back and see us once a year for an annual review.
